Participants will (1) gain awareness of the extent and impact of gender inequality and intersecting forms of discrimination; (2) improve confidence to promote gender equality; (3) increase their knowledge and understanding of affirmative consent; and (4) increase knowledge and understanding of harmful gender stereotypes.
About
By using a methodology based on board-games, the workshop allows participants to feel empowered to explore challenging or somewhat unknown topics, in a fun, inclusive and community-feel way.
During the workshop we play three evidence-based board-games (Uneven, Who is Who, What It Is) and/or do an activity with our comic-book (Olivia) and create conversations that fosters introspection and dialogue; helping participants challenge biases and develop tools for real-life application.
The board-games and comic book
Uneven is a life/monopoly/snake and ladders style board game, where players navigate life’s twists and turns, dealing with challenges like babies, debt, and invisible privilege. Along the way, players confront realities like the gender pay gap, traditional roles, and sexual orientation inequalities while aiming to finish with the most money in the bank.
Who is who? Is a bingo style guessing game, that encourages players to reflect on gender stereotypes and biased assumptions by guessing which character on the board matches the description. It fosters reflection on the real impacts of these biases.
What it is plays like a game of snap, where players learn the concepts of consent while repeating phrases related to consent and respectful relationships. It encourages role-playing situations to practice asking for and demonstrating enthusiastic consent. This game fosters discussions about healthy relationships, empowering players to approach these conversations in their personal lives.
Olivia: The adventures of understanding love is a comic book that tells the story of Olivia and highlights the red flags of unhealthy relationships while teaching protective factors for healthier communities. It raises awareness of subtle forms of coercive control.
